John Bapst Robotics Teams Shine at Local Tournament

Two robotics trophies

John Bapst's robotics teams delivered impressive performances at the recent tournament at Bangor High School.

SnuggleMuffins: A Dominating Force

The SnuggleMuffins team had an exceptional day. They swept the qualification rounds, finishing first without allowing any scores against them. They also secured the Robot Skills Champion title, achieving a high score for the state, and were honored with the Excellence Award. Their chance at the Tournament Champion title was narrowly missed when their alliance partner's battery disconnected at the start of the Finals match. Despite facing two strong robots from MSSM and Scarborough, they nearly pulled off the 2v1 win in an incredibly close and exciting match.

All Bapst Teams Reach Eliminations

A significant achievement for the school was that all John Bapst teams advanced to the elimination rounds, a feat 10 of the 42 competing teams did not accomplish. This success was notable even for the newest rookie team, who had a strong debut performance. Their minimalist, spiky ramming robot proved unexpectedly effective, managing to unintentionally disable a much larger robot by ramming it and dislodging an air tank.

Plow King and Mechanica Show Promise

Plow King, with their newly completed robot design, is now on the verge of entering the top tier of competitors. With additional tuning and practice, they are anticipated to achieve great things at the upcoming Valentine's Bapst meet. Mechanica also showed significant improvement, refining their 6-chambered Ferris Bot to now effectively grab and score blocks during a match. While they still have development work ahead, their progress is commendable.
