On Wednesday, January 24th, we welcomed a special guest to John Bapst for an assembly speak and classroom visits thereafter.
Dr. Franziska Seraphim, Associate Professor of History from Boston College introduced an exhibit on loan from BC to John Bapst. The exhibit included thesis work of Vicki Shen ’13, who is now back in China.
With a BA from Berkeley and PhD from Columbia, Professor Seraphim’s academic focus goes beyond the platitude of “studying history to avoid repeating our mistakes” to ask a crucial question, “When terrible things have happened in history, what courses of action are available to people today?” The movement she is part of is called Historical Redress or Historical Justice, and the exhibit on “Righting Historical Wrongs” will be on display at John Bapst for teachers to use and students to learn from for several weeks during semester two. You may wish to look at the Boston College website with its further resources: http://library.domain.bc.edu/mhp/righting-historical-wrongs/
We are very excited to feature the work of one of our own graduates and look forward to utilizing it at John Bapst.
