On Her Way: A Career in Cosmetology
Jessica has known what she has wanted to do for a career since middle school, when she was given a pair of hair scissors. “A fun thing to do,” she comments, saying she loves the connections cosmetology offers. “I like being able to interact with customers.” And she’s so good at it – the grooming, the bookings, the phone skills, and the interaction – that she has earned the opportunity to be an apprentice at her aunt’s busy hair salon in Bangor. Recognizing her affinity for the work, John Bapst helped arrange the program, for which she will earn a final grade. The greatest lesson she has learned from John Bapst: “Teaching me talking skills. I’m more confident and open. Interaction is a must.”
