Thirty-six students were inducted into the Harlow “Joe” Floyd Chapter of the National Honor Society, November 25, 2013 before an audience of family and friends in the Sekera Auditorium at John Bapst.
The John Bapst Chamber Ensemble provided music for the beginning of the event, followed by a welcome by Mrs. Beth Campbell, admission director. NHS member Amanda Richard read the chapter history before Mr. Mel MacKay introduced the guest speaker for the event, The Rev. Marguerite A. H. Steadman.
Following Rev. Steadman’s words to the assembly, Lucy Du sang Mariah Carey’s “Hero” with Mike Tormey as accompanist and Charlie Hanscom, performed Lennon and McCartney’s “Blackbird” accompanied by Diego Grossman.
The Criteria of the National Honor Society was presented by Maryam Kashkooli, Lauren Budd, Joshua Nosel, and Erin Landry, who also lead the group in the Honor Society Pledge:
I pledge myself to uphold the high purposes of the National Honor Society to which I have been selected; I will be true to the principles for which it stands; I will be loyal to my school; and I will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
NHS advisors Ms. Campbell and Mr. Michael Murphy were joined by Mr. MacKay for a Presentation to the Inductees. Closing remarks were made by Jade Decker and Mr. Murphy.
