Chris Packard’s Environmental Geology class (lovingly nicknamed “natural disasters class”) studied the devastating earthquake which affected Haiti in 2010. As the researched the response to the disaster, they were moved by the slow progress and shocked at the inefficiencies which sometimes occurred, as when new shoes arrived before fresh water.
The class decided to raise money to support ongoing relief efforts and recruited five teachers to assist them – Steve Cheff, Patric Hamilton, Shannon Whiting, Elizabeth Wood, and Eric Duncan. The plan was that each teacher would be represented by a bucket and the teacher whose bucket contained the most money would be the happy recipient to a pie in the face at a school assembly.
Thank you Mr. Hamilton for you good nature, Mr. Packard and his Environmental Geology and to the students at John Bapst for their generosity!

The total from all five teachers was $130, with Mr. Hamilton as the fundraising favorite, with $66 in his bucket. Yoshi Inokuchi’s name was drawn a list of students and he was the lucky pie tosser.
Combined with the $120 raised from a bake sale, the class will contribute $250 toward the Haitian rebuilding effort.
