Student and performer Mia Khavari ’23 writes,
“This is my rendition of the song “My Funny Valentine” by Richard Rogers, a love song for right around Valentine’s Day! “My Funny Valentine” was originally written for the Broadway musical “Babes in Arms.” However, great musicians including Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and so many more, attracted to the somber but hopeful tune, have made it “their own.” It features a mirroring of major and minor keys that give the song a longing that is hard to describe with words; it’s not your average peppy 20’s love song. The part I played here is only the beginning solo part. I encourage you to take a listen and come up with your own interpretation of this beautiful love song!”
