Last month, John Bapst National Honor Society members attended the Maine State NHS Convention at the University of Maine with nearly 400 other student leaders from around the state. The convention’s theme was “Turning the Page: From Adversity to Opportunity.” Workshops were held throughout the morning with the goal of starting conversations with peers and adapting to change. Presenters for some of these workshops included our own school counselor, Mrs. O’Reilly; yoga teacher, Ms. Grover; NHS advisor, Mrs. Babcock; and parent, Mrs. Rand. Previous MNHS officers, President Gwen Rand and Regional Representative Ella Brochu, led the convention. After candidates presented their speeches on the pillars of the National Honor Society – Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service – the new officers were sworn in. Representing John Bapst at the state level for 2024-2025 will be Ada Sinclair-Steele as president, Elinora Barker as vice president, and Julia Burns as Regional Representative. The new officers will plan the 2025 banquet and convention, working with other officers from around the state.
