On Saturday, John Bapst was represented well at the Maine Scholastic Team Chess Championships at the University of Maine. This year, the Crusader Chess Club competed in two challenging sections: the High School Championship and the High School Reserve.
In the Championship, the team of Benjamin Mock (1.0/4), Prince Wang (2.0/4), Devon Hunter (2.5/4), Andrew Castellanos (3.0/4) and Tony Huang (4.0/4) fought hard in all rounds for a second place finish among a really tough field.
In the Reserve section, a tie for first ensued with Bangor High School, and we won second place on tiebreaks. Our top three scorers bringing home medals were Gavin Worcester (3.0/4), Jake Grover (3.0/4), and John Hoang (3.0/4). Fellow reservists Khoa Dao (3.0/4), Michael Mai (3.0/4), Edgar Buchweitz (3.0/4), Khanye Cogdell (3.0/4), Dakota Colson (2.5/4), Edward Wu (2.0/4), Rachel Norment (2.0/4), Hayden O’Connell (2.0/4), Tyler McGoldrick (2.0/4) and Hang Le (1.5/4) helped to put up a strong showing for the team.
Congratulations to all!
