Maria Howson and Nick Jordan, 2014 graduates of JB, have been selected to participate in The Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic, now in its 25th consecutive year with Lobster Bowl XXV. It is played each summer at the end of July. This year’s game will be on Saturday, July 19th at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford. Kick-off is at 6:00pm.
This high school senior all-star football game is sponsored by the Kora Shrine and 100% of the net proceeds from the game benefit the 22 Shrine Hospitals for Children across the US, Canada, and Mexico. The Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Game raises funds public awareness of the expert orthopedic and burn care facilities available, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay, to children who need specialized care.
This East vs. West match-up brings over 160 football players, cheerleaders, and coaches from all over the state together to help produce a premier high school sporting event. Students are nominated to play in this prestigious game by their coaches and selected by a committee from the Maine Athletics Association. All participants commit to a week-long training camp. While making new friends, they learn why the game is played – “Strong Legs Run … So that Weak Legs May Walk”.
Maria will join the other 60 cheerleaders for a week-long camp at Central Maine Community College in Lewiston, while Nick will head to his own camp for a week at Hebron Academy.
JB Head Football Coach Dan O’Connell has also been selected to his seventh straight Lobster Bowl as a Coach. He will be an assistant coach this year working with the offensive line.
Tickets are now available for the 25th annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic ($8 general admission / $10 reserved seating) and may be purchased online by going to www.korashriners.org, or on game day at the ticket booth.
