The Baseball season included many team and individual successes. The team finished the regular season on a nine game winning streak and with a 14 – 2 record. This was good enough to earn them the PVC Class B Championship and the #1 overall ranking in Eastern Maine Class B in the final Heal Point standings.
With the team success also came many individual awards. Seniors Shawn Curran and Evan Pelkey were the most decorated award winners, both earning First Team All-Conference recognition. The pair was also named Maine Baseball Coaches Association Senior All Stars. They will compete in the Senior All Star game on Friday, June 21st at the University of Maine. Evan and Shawn were also named to compete in the Maine vs. New Hampshire Senior All Star game. This game will be played Monday, June 17th at the University of Southern Maine.
In addition to Evan and Shawn, Senior Nolan Webber and Junior Tom Burns were named to the All-Conference Second Team. Head Coach, Dave Gonyar, was named Penobscot Valley Conference Class B Coach of the Year. Coach Gonyar just completed his second season with the program and has an impressive overall record of 27-8, one conference championship, one conference runner-up and a Coach of the Year award. The baseball team was also well represented on the conference All Academic team. Earning that honor are the following Seniors Jordan Carr, Andrew Catlin, Jon Deschaine, Josh Baker, and Evan Pelkey.
Congratulations to the student athletes on the baseball team. Thank you for your hard work and a tremendous 2013 season.
