One very special player was Jon Davis. Davis is a 1972 graduate of John Bapst High School, but never got to play for the school as there wasn’t a hockey team at the time. Instead, he played for the recreational team in Old Town, then played for the start-up youth hockey team in Bangor, where he skated with area youngsters such as Larry Mahoney, Mike Roberts and the Lander brothers. Years later, a job transfer brought Davis back to Bangor. He was instrumental in starting the Brewer Youth Hockey organization and became Brewer High School’s first coach. Recently Davis coached the Adult Learn To Play program at Penobscot Ice Arena and has been active in the adult hockey leagues for years. Through it all, though, something was missing. The days of doodling and designing Bapst uniforms while sitting in classes all those years ago kept calling Davis back. He dreamed of donning the purple and white Crusader hockey jersey. On Saturday, after graduating 42 years ago, his dream finally came true.
