An open letter to the John Bapst community:
This is the time of year we usually report to you about spring sports … about how we’re looking forward to graduation … about what a great year it’s been for our school … about how strong our school community is.
We are still strong – there’s no doubt about that. Coronavirus has so far spared our campus, and we are counting our blessings. But walking the silent hallways of the school each day, it’s impossible not to feel that pieces are missing. Lots of them.
We don’t have to tell you that this spring things are different as we fight the pandemic together. On the one hand our spring appeal is more important than ever, but on the other hand it’s essential that we say to you up front, if your family is struggling economically, our thoughts are with you. The moral support you provide us at John Bapst is all we would dream of asking.
Just as the past two months have been especially challenging for you and your family, they have been challenging for our students and teachers. In an administrative team meeting on March 2, the topic of online teaching was on the agenda, and in a faculty meeting on March 12, teachers heard about the possibility of moving classes online. Six days later on March 18, every John Bapst teacher transitioned to distance learning. It was amazing to observe, and it’s all because we have some of the most talented teachers any of us have ever seen.
If you’re able to support John Bapst at this time, we want you to know that your donation is supporting:
• Teachers, and their uninterrupted dedication to providing quality education under difficult circumstances
• Students, and their love for learning and amazing resilience in completing a school year in an unfamiliar way
• Seniors, who will graduate on June 7, 2020 and then be off to great adventures next year
• Administrators, office staff, nurses, custodians, and cooks, all of whom have pitched in to keep the business of the school moving forward,
keep us healthy, and take care of our many boarding students unable to return to their home countries.
Thank you for helping us put the pieces of our strong, spirited community back together again as we endure these hard times and look forward to better ones.
And please stay safe and healthy yourselves!
Head of School
Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, past and present faculty, staff, parents, grandparents, and friends, John Bapst continues its proud tradition of being academically challenging, independent, college-preparatory school fostering in students a respect for learning, for themselves, and for others. Your support provides opportunities for students to learn and explore in and out of the classroom.
Your annual fund donation makes you a part of some amazing accomplishments. Your gift, large or small, helps us expand STEM offerings, ensure a robust Advanced Placement program, provide a full field of sports options, maintain flourishing fine arts offerings, fuel state of the art technology classes, (including robotics) and provide generous financial aid to those who need it. We couldn’t do it without you. Please give to the 2019-20 Annual Fund today. Thank you.
