John Bapst is proud to share that we've been recognized as an AP Platinum School by the College Board for the second consecutive year. This prestigious distinction recognizes schools that have demonstrated a strong commitment to Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams. We're one of only three schools in the state of Maine with that designation.

About the AP School Honor Roll

The AP School Honor Roll, which was launched in 2023, recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening also access. Schools earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. John Bapst has been awarded the highest level for two consecutive years. This recognition puts John Bapst in the top 7% of schools nationwide.

To achieve Platinum status, a school must meet several criteria. These include:

  • Offering a wide range of AP courses (25 AP Courses are offered at John Bapst)
  • Having a high percentage of students participating in AP courses (For example, in 2024, 91% of John Bapst students took at least 1 AP course. 34% of our students took 5 or more)
  • Having a high percentage of students scoring 3 or higher on AP exams (65% of John Bapst students earned a score of 3 or higher in 2024)

John Bapst has a long history of excellence in AP education. The school offers a wide range of AP courses in a variety of subjects, including English, foreign language, mathematics, science, and social science.

The College Board's AP program is a rigorous academic program that allows high school students to take college-level courses and earn college credit. AP courses are taught by qualified high school teachers who have been approved by the College Board. Students who score 3 or higher on an AP exam may be eligible to receive college credit or placement.

John Bapst is proud to be a part of the AP program and to offer its students the opportunity to take AP courses. The school's recognition as an AP Platinum School is a testament to its commitment to providing its students with a world-class, college preparatory education.
