Our athletic program rivals that of any school in Maine--25 varsity teams in 17 sports--and the opportunity to play belongs to every student; so school spirit is intense. Simply put, Bapst students not only study hard; they also play hard.
And success is common. Since 1981, Bapst athletes have brought home 11 State Championships in Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Baseball, Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Girls Outdoor Track and Field. However, the athletic awards for which the school could not be prouder and which, perhaps, illustrate the character of the school more significantly are the ten Good Sportsmanship banners brought home by the Wrestling Team, the Swim Team, the Girls Soccer Team, and the Girls Varsity, Boys Varsity, and Freshman Basketball Teams. Sportsmanship is, of course, one of life's crucial lessons, and Bapst students on the whole show that they have learned it earlier than most.
The common denominator of a Bapst education is strong academics; every athlete is as well a college preparatory student, and hardly a student on the honor roll and hardly a valedictorian or salutatorian has not been an athlete. Indeed, athletes often are also the leads in stage productions or members of the Chess or Math teams. At Bapst being involved is the important thing , and sports, like academics and the arts, are one more element in the Bapst conception of a complete individual.
