At the heart of the guidance program is the counseling service: academic, career/college, and personal. Through counseling, students grow in self-knowledge and become better able to meet their goals through wise decision making. All students are scheduled to meet with their counselor at least once a year and are encouraged to make additional appointments whenever needed.

Development Office

return to topJohn Bapst Memorial High School has long been an integral part of Bangor and, indeed, the state of Maine.  The school is a key resource that continues to provide its students with an exceptionally strong college preparatory program, while encouraging them to develop interests – academic, athletic and artistic – that will last a lifetime.

Tuition revenue at John Bapst – whether from our private pay families or from those students whose tuition is paid by their sending school communities – does not cover the cost of educating a student at John Bapst.  Operating a comprehensive college preparatory program with a rich array of extra-curricular opportunities is an expensive proposition, especially when one considers that independent schools in Maine must rely on donors, rather than public coffers, for larger facilities expenses.

Donors to Bapst provide support in a variety of ways:

  • The Annual Fund

The John Bapst Annual Fund supports the school's operating expenses.  Annual giving helps John Bapst to bridge the gap between tuition income and the expenses associated with providing an excellent comprehensive education.  Annual fund gifts provide direct and immediate benefits to Bapst students and faculty.  Our Annual Auction not only provides parents an opportunity to socialize, it is our primary school-wide fundraising event.
  • Capital Support

Capital gifts make equipment purchases and unusually expensive physical improvements possible.  The school's annual maintenance budget simply can't keep pace with the needs of our historic building.
  • The Endowment Fund

Endowment funds serve as institutional bank accounts, providing long-term financial growth and a growing income stream over time.  As John Bapst's Endowment Fund continues to grow, investment earnings will be used to fund scholarships, programs for students, faculty and general operating expenses.  Planned gifts through the John Bapst Legacy Society are usually channeled toward the endowment.
  • John Bapst Memorial High School Foundation

In 1987 a dedicated group of John Bapst supporters established the John Bapst Memorial High School Foundation to preserve and guarantee the long-term future of John Bapst.  The Foundation is a separate 501(c)3 that is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees.  Its sole purpose is to raise funds for the benefit of John Bapst Memorial High School.

There are several ways to make a tax-deductible gift to John Bapst.  Call us at (207) 947-0313 or write to us in the Development Office, 100 Broadway, Bangor, Maine  04401.  We appreciate your support.
