  • Academic Counseling:

Because the proper choice of high school courses has a direct bearing on future options, each student meets individually with their counselor to develop a course of study, taking into account aptitudes, interests, special talents, as well as college admissions requirements. If a student is having academic difficulty, the counselor will review study techniques, help facilitate contact with the National Honor Society Peer Tutoring Program, or initiate the Weekly Progress Report System.
  • Career Counseling:

By means of career interest inventories, aptitude tests, and work values inventories, all students are encouraged to investigate career paths. Other school resources include a computer-based career planning program and numerous books containing career and job market information.
  • College Counseling:

With over ninety percent of our seniors entering college directly from high school, great emphasis is placed on the college admissions process. Students receive information and assistance with college selection, college applications and essays, college visits and interviews, financial aid, scholarships, and test preparation. School resources include college catalogues, viewbooks, videotapes, and a computer-based college planning program. In addition, students are invited to meet with college representatives and alumni who visit John Bapst.
  • Personal Counseling:

Students are welcome at any time to meet with the counselor to discuss topics of personal concern. Discussing the problem often helps the student realize a solution. Occasionally, however, the counselor may assist with a referral to an outside professional trained more specifically in a given area. Students may visit the guidance center during study periods or before and after school.
