Our school has stood proudly at 100 Broadway for 80 years, first as John Bapst High School, the Bangor area's only parochial secondary institution, and since 1980 as John Bapst Memorial High School, an independent, non-religious day school.
The school's evolution and Maine's unusual system of "town academies" can make a simple question like "What is John Bapst?" a challenge to answer. One of ten private/public hybrids in the state, John Bapst serves a socio-economically and geographically diverse population of 470 students from nearly 45 towns, many too small to have their own high school. Most students are publicly funded - at least to a point. It takes the generosity of parents, alumni, and friends of the school and the resourcefulness of faculty and staff to offer the highest-quality education to our students. And we deliver quality at a per capita student cost of under $10,000 per year.
